Title: How to Challenge Students and Promote Their Critical Thinking in Higher Education?
Abstract:
College students are an important but special population group due to the nature of their physiological and psychological development. However, for some reason, the topic of “How to Challenge Students and Promote Their Critical Thinking in Higher Education” has not been adequately studied in research or properly implemented in practice in China. This speech will (a) review recent research about students’ critical thinking development resulting from college teaching and (b) with the integration of the author’s 18 years of college teaching experiences in the United States, introduce practical college teaching strategies of how to challenge students and promote their critical thinking in both face-to-face and online learning environments. Implications for Chinese college teaching will also be discussed.
