Title: Technological Innovation, Information Technology and Education
Abstract:
This paper discusses technological innovation, particularly in relation to education. Innovation relates to the adoption and use of a new technology or idea, unlike invention which is discovery or creation. An important issue in relation to technological adoption is that not all of these innovations are adopted in the form in which they were proposed as while some are adopted in full, other use only parts of the technology or do not adopt at all. In education, computers are used in many different subject areas, and teaching about computing is also very important at all levels of education. Information technology and education is thus very much a socio-technical study involving both people and things and so this paper will make use of Innovation Translation, informed by Actor Network Theory to discuss it.
