Title: Competition ala “Monopoly” – a realistic alternative to the passive behavior of competitors
Abstract:
Abstract:
The present paper proposes a model of energetic competition, as an alternative to the standard approach of simply profit-maximizing competitors. It reproduces the motives in the game “Monopoly” and provides more realistic simulations of actual behaviors in imperfectly competitive markets.
Following a review of the relevant state of the art, we present the basic version of the behavioral model and then we proceed by applying it in several types of markets with different characteristics. The theoretical analysis reveals quite different outcomes than those we would get by having the standard, passive, profit-maximizing behavior, questioning the uniqueness and optimality of standard equilibria.
In the second part of the paper, we proceed with an application of the model in the special critical conditions and we control in as how much these can explain more efficiently the developments in the frame of current economic depressions.

Keywords and JEL-Classification:
Imperfect competition, energetic behaviour of competitors – D21.
